According to the Atlanta Community Food Bank, nearly 1 in every 9 Atlantans face food insecurity.
Helping to combat this trend are the urban farms dotting the Atlanta landscape. In addition to wellness education, these farms provide tons of fresh, nutritious produce to local communities each year! Though small in acreage, their impact is mighty and Community Bucket is gathering local techies, September 16-17, to help these strong and mighty teams.
Prepare to get your fingers dirty as volunteers gather to support two urban farms – Concrete Jungle and the Historic Westside Gardens.
There is something for everyone
Thursday Night – Nichole and Rosario from Concrete Jungle and Historic Westside Gardens, respectively, will co-host a virtual unmissable lesson on the impact of urban farming in Atlanta, how to support them remotely and how to create your own “Seed Bombs” used to greenify neglected areas – no planting required!
Friday Night – Both farms have asked for support with gardening and maintenance, which may involve volunteers harvesting food, cutting grass, weeding, building garden boxes, repairing fences and more. Supplies are included.
You can sign up as a team or an individual. Space is limited, so don’t delay! Your ticket reserves your spot, and include lunch/beer during your shift. RSVP here!
