The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and Alpharetta co-working facility Digital Ignition have announced Georgia’s first Smart Vehicle Tech Challenge, focused on access and use of connected vehicle data that can be incorporated into smart city planning.
The Talking Traffic Lights Challenge invites companies — particularly startups — to interpret GDOT traffic light and connected vehicle data to identify opportunities for road safety applications. This first-of-its-kind project gives participants unprecedented access to comprehensive city traffic signal data, as well as GDOT’s technology teams involved in working on smart vehicle innovation.
This initiative has been created to help support GDOT’s ongoing focus on traffic innovation and safety. As a result, participating companies will be carefully selected. Amongst other requirements, they must demonstrate they have been in operation for at least three years, can dedicate three or more employees to the event, can attend at least four GDOT IoT data training sessions (in-person or online), and have IoT, AI, and blockchain experience.
Why participate?
- Participating teams have the opportunity to present to GDOT’s IT team and showcase the company’s capabilities directly to the decision-makers judging the event
- Access to a first-hand view of the breadth of traffic data collected to enhance connected vehicle products beyond this one Challenge
- Ability to leverage ongoing marketing and public relations, including speaking opportunities, to generate targeted visibility and exposure with GDOT and the tech market
- Chance to network and recruit new potential IT partners
- And finally, the opportunity to win a cash prize
Details about the challenged will be shared at a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Digital Ignition on June 27. Georgia’s Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan, along with key members of the technology and business community, will be on hand at the event.
