Atlanta is built on a history of people coming together to tackle challenges bigger than their own. That spirit of organizing toward progress is still alive in the city. Every day, we meet people who are on the ground, tackling inequality on topics like education, food security, criminal justice, and more.
The launch of the Civic Impact Awards celebrates the people who put in the time and energy day in and day out, not for credit, but to change the lives of other people for the better. Without them, the story of Atlanta is incomplete.

Awards Categories Include:
Investing in Innovation Award: this award is for an Atlanta-based foundation that, instead of investing in the same old same, made investments in programs or services that advance a new idea or thought.
Corporate Civic Impact Award: this award is for a corporation that went above and beyond to make their hometown of Atlanta better. This corporation represents how cities and businesses can work together to solve systemic social challenges.
Small Business, Big Impact Award: this award is for a small business in Atlanta that has improved its neighborhood or community in a positive way.
Moving the Needle Award: this award is for a nonprofit organization in Atlanta that has made big progress against an issue that Atlanta faces and has the data to show it.
Innovation in Government Award: this award is for a government agency at the local (city, county, region, state) level that broke through the status quo and tried something new or different in an effort to make government more innovative, effective, and/or participatory.
Atlanta Creative Impact Award: this award is for an organization that uses art, film, music, or culture as a vehicle for social impact in Atlanta. We want to recognize the work of creatives in Atlanta and their role in making Atlanta a better city.
Civic Troublemaker Award [Awarding an Individual]: in the spirit of Congressman John Lewis, we want to recognize a person that has been creating “good trouble” for Atlanta. We are looking for those who are tireless advocates for those whose voice goes unheard. We want to recognize a strong advocate and champion for the city of Atlanta
Rules & Qualifications:
All nominees must be based in the Greater Atlanta area. For corporations and large organizations, home office must be located in Atlanta and scope of work related to the nomination must be locally focused.
Nominees must uphold the Center for Civic Innovation’s values of:
- Diversity and inclusion
- Authenticity of work, action and reason
- Engagement of the community in which they serve
- Focus on true impact, not short-term fixes
Once the nomination process closes, nominees will be contacted with information about the Civic Impact Awards and next steps for their participation.
