by Ryan Waller

Tech Talent South is a tech company dedicated to cultivating digital programming, web development, and coding talent throughout the southeast. Their 8-week intensive bootcamps aim to prepare students for a career in web development and empower aspiring entrepreneurs with the skills they need to launch web-based businesses.

Meet one of their recent graduates, Lanii Thomas, to hear about her experience at Tech Talent South, as well as her dreams for the future.

What program did you just complete?
I just completed the Intro to Web Design at TTS and learned things that would’ve taken years to learn on my own. Joanna is a great instructor and on the first day we were writing code!

What past tech projects have you worked on?
I’m a writer. But I’m laser focused on learning the tech and creative sides of building beautiful, engaging websites. I haven’t worked on many tech projects. But, that’s why I took this course with TTS. With this new skill set I plan to start developing web sites. I love healthcare communications and have several former clients I can go back to now and let them know I can improve their existing websites or create totally new ones. I’d love to work on projects that help make medical websites for private doctors more engaging. That’s what I’d like to work on.

What are your best technical or creative skills?
My creative passion is writing, but I’m branching out into the technical side of building great web sites…and I’m loving the journey.

What’s next on your list to learn?
Websites that have moving video have really captured my attention probably because of my experience in video production. In addition to creating exciting web sites using video, I’d really like to dive deeper into CSS, Javascript and JQuery.

What’s your ideal internship/job?
My ideal job is to create web sites and write web content from home.

Interested in startups?
Working for a startup would be exciting and something new for me. I think I have a lot to offer startups given my 15 years of experience in marketing communications. I also think my passion to learn new things and work with other creative souls is what startups offer that I don’t currently have with my current job. have had a chance to create cool videos, and print collateral
