Three Perspectives on Leadership in Startups

At the June 4 kick off of the Summer Startup Academy, Scott Henderson discussed with three individuals an often overlooked aspect of startups – leadership. Three seasoned startup leaders were welcomed into the “hot-seat” during Startup Day ATL – the following videos are the results of the conversations. Andy Fleming, author of numerous leadership books and former Yale basketballer, tips-off the Leadership in Startups series below, followed by Joe Reger, Jr., of Springbot, and Candace Mitchell, CEO of Techturized.

“I would have to say that there is this old image of the leader being visionary, a storyteller kind of person. I would say now that the leader is a truth seeker.”

– Andy Fleming, Founding Partner at Core Growth Partners, LLC

“Kind of like in Iron Man races or raising kids, you’re going to get knocked down a lot, but I think that the unique thing about startup entrepreneurs is that they just have that drive to keep on pushing through.”

– Joe Reger (@joereger), Co-Founder and CTO at Springbot (@springbot)

“We see change on a daily basis, so it really takes initiative and understanding that the startup pace is very fast and you’re constantly testing hypotheses.”

– Candace Mitchell (@loveCandyV), Co-Founder at Techturized (@techturized)
