Ruby Dev Looking for Guidance + Gig

Samuel Whitley just completed a 12 week Ruby on Rails bootcamp at The Iron Yard.  Now he’s looking for a mentor and the opportunity to take his app-creating skills to the next level. ATL, he’s a catch. Read more:

What past tech projects have you worked on?
During my course at the Iron Yard I participated in an internal hackathon. I was apart of a team that consisted of three ruby on rails students, two mobile students, and one front end student. We attempted to build an app that would help someone manage sports teams for a recreational league of any sport. I’d have to say during that project I learned how to work with people way more than in any other project I have ever been a part of.

What are your best technical or creative skills?
My best skill is figuring out how to solve a problem in as many different ways possible. I’d say it bothers me not just when I get stuck on a problem, but when I can only find one way to solve a given issue.

What’s next on your list to learn?
First thing I need to do I learn as much as I can about Ruby and Rails. Next I most definitely want to learn more javascript and jQuery. After that I would like to take the time to dive into swift or maybe even Scala.

What’s your ideal internship/job?
My ideal job or internship would be one were I can find a mentor(s). One that will take a personal interest in my growth as a programmer and as a person too. I feel this is crucial for me to get to the next step in my abilities.

Interested in startups?
It would be nice to work for a company on the cusp of something new and exciting. I would have the potential to learn a crazy amounts of new things all at once.

Post graduation plans?
I will be looking to land a job to grow my skills as a software developer. I also plan to write as many interesting rails apps as I can while using some new gems I like to play with and implement some javascript into my projects. I think it would be cool to write an app that I could use in my personal life.
