Dustin Shelley | Crafty with Ales & Rails

The rising tech industry in Atlanta is becoming increasingly competitive, making it important for all new talent to be flexible, multi-faceted and above all extremely willing to get their hands dirty. All of these things explain Dustin Shelley. Dustin just wrapped up the part-time immersion class at Tech Talent South learning Ruby and Ruby on Rails, and has also worked with Objective-C and Swift. He has been tackling different languages, knows a lot about print production and has worked extensively with designers and manufacturers. Check out his profile below and keep an eye out for him, he has an exciting future ahead.

What past tech projects have you worked on?
I don’t really have a portfolio of tech projects; this has been a transition of sorts, as I currently run a large format installation company specializing in wraps and mobile advertising.

What are your best technical or creative skills?
Technically speaking, I’m still wet behind the ears, and I plan to continue to learn. Being in the print industry, I have an intimate knowledge of print production and have worked quite a bit with designers and manufacturers.

What’s next on your list to learn?
I plan to continue my learning in Ruby and Ruby on Rails. Before I started TTS, I did a little work with Objective-C and Swift, so that will definitely be on top of the long list of languages; a lot of my ideas are better suited as a native application, so I think after I have a better understanding of OOP then I will tackle another language.

Interested in startups?
I am interested in all facets of technology.

What’s your ideal internship/job?
I’m pretty open to just about anything — 10 years ago, I didn’t think that I would be in the industry that I am in now, so I always try to make the best out of every door that’s currently in front of me. If I had it my way, I would like to find a position that’ll allow me to continue to learn while also cultivating my own projects/ideas.

When are you available to start?
Again, very flexible; if the right opportunity were to present itself, I could be available tomorrow.
