Innovative Tech Talent With a Love for Logic + Building

Vi Pham just finished the Front End Engineering program at The Iron Yard and is looking for a place to showcase her knack for innovation and love for logic and building things. She’s a hard worker on her way to becoming a full-stack development ninja. Get to know her and the many projects she’s worked on in the past. Keep her in mind when searching for some tech talent to join your startup team.

What past tech projects have you worked on?
About 6 weeks before coming to The Iron Yard, I began learning JavaScript on my own and the coolest thing I built up to that point was a simple Battleship game (yeah, don’t laugh!) but since taking my classes at TIY, I have built some cool stuff, such as a calculator, Twitter- and Goodreads-inspired apps, and a photo-sharing app.

In addition to these projects, I got to collaborate with cool and talented classmates on apps like a photo guessing game, an Angry Birds clone (that involved throwing consultants of different experience levels at projects), and a social network for developers.

What are your best technical or creative skills?
Some of my strongest skills in both the technical and creative realms are my curiosity for challenging problems and a desire to find logical solutions. As someone who looks to solving problems in the most efficient way, I am enthusiastic about learning and amplifying my knowledge to come up with more creative and elegant solutions.

While it isn’t technically a skill, I also question things that “are” and love to look at problems from unconventional angles. I enjoy including my perspective on problems, which at times is different from ideas already in the fray.

What’s next on your list to learn?
I am excited to apply my knowledge of front-end web development as soon as I can. However, I really want to learn node.js, Python, and Ruby soon. Eventually, I would like to add mobile and database development skills to my repertoire also. Hello, full-stack development ninja!

What’s your ideal internship/job?
My ideal role would allow me to work independently and also be paired with a mentor. I enjoy figuring out things on my own but there are times when it is immensely helpful to get guidance, especially after running around in a circle for the 20th time. I am very interested in learning as much as I can about software development and hope that my programming home will encourage and promote this.

Interested in startups?
Definitely interested in startups! Atlanta has become a hotbed for many innovative companies and I would very much enjoy the opportunity to be part of a team that is building something that has a strong potential of becoming successful. I’m pretty much a night owl and am super hardworking so if you’re part of a startup looking for a junior dev and are okay with occasional questions, don’t look too far. *jumping up and down, waving arms semi-frantically*

Post graduation plans?
I want to work! If I am lucky, I will join a team that will benefit largely from my front-end web dev skills and will also give me the chance to learn more about back-end, database, and mobile. In addition to working, I hope to have more time to bake madeleines and tarts, play board games with awesome friends and siblings, travel a bit, and maybe sleep at times.
