Elizabeth Korthof is a creative and passionate techie who just completed the General Assembly web development course. She has a background in art and a desire to learn and grow within the industry… what’s not to love? Learn more about Elizabeth below.
What projects have you worked on during the course?
During the course I completed three projects. My first project is called OnBeat and it’s a web application designed to help users make playlists based on song tempo. My second project is called docket and it’s a single page application to help people find events and schedule them into a calendar. My third project is Can’t Be Bought, which is a single long-page site designed to educate users about human trafficking throughout the world by presenting data from multiple sources in a simplified and meaningful format.
All of the sites were built using Ruby on Rails, Bootstrap, HTML5, and CSS3. Projects 2 & 3 also used AngularJS and jQuery, as well as a few other libraries.
What are your best technical and/or creative skills?
I’ve been surrounded by the arts since I was a child, and it’s always been a part of my life. I’ve developed a passion for aesthetics and for making my work visually pleasing. My intuition about font, size, placement, color, and interaction are all strengths of mine, as is my ability to write the code to bring my ideas to life.
What’s next on your list to learn?
I’m excited to continue working on the skills I’ve developed so far, but I’m always excited about learning something new. Both Famo.us and Meteor are on my list!
What’s your ideal internship/job?
I’d like a job that allows me to exercise my creativity, working on the front-end of web development. Ideally, I’d like to work with a company whose mission or products do good things for the world, but most paramount is that I have the ability to learn and grow.
Interested in startups?
Yes!
Post graduation plans?
I’ll be in the Atlanta area for the foreseeable future, so I plan to live and work here in the city.
