Dylan Massell | Iron Yard Grad, Rails Engineer, Available Tech Talent

The Iron Yard academy teaches intensive, three-month courses that are churning out  junior-level programmers into the Atlanta tech-talent pool. Meet  one of their recent graduates, Dylan Massell to hear about his experience at The Iron yard and what he is looking to do next.

What program did you just complete?
Ruby on Rails course

What past tech projects have you worked on?
My previous experience within the tech industry was a short lived occupation as a Portfolio Analyst for a credit card ISO. There I had the responsibilities of maintaining and improving our desktop application and backend database through Visual Basic in Microsoft Access and Microsoft SQL Studio Management.

What are your best technical or creative skills?
The technical skills the Iron Yard has taught me include HTML, HAML, CSS, Javascript, JQuery, Rspec, SQLite, and PostgreSQL among other tools, technologies and languages to develop an application within the full-stack framework of Ruby on Rails. Moreover, the Iron Yard taught me how I can familiarize myself with these tools or others, even if it appears alien at first, and how to implement and use them for complex solutions within an application.

What’s next on your list to learn?
The next development skill I want to master is working in a front-end framework such as AngularJS.

What’s your ideal internship/job?
An ideal job for me would be one where I can further my skills as a web developer in a full-stack framework, and the applications being built would have a direct contribution to our development as a global civilization.

Interested in startups?
I am interested in startups and founded companies where they aim to make an impact on how people live for the better, and bring a global community together.

Post graduation plans?
I am currently seeking employment as a web developer from any company where these ideals and values are at the core of its philosophy.
