Cameron Herron: Code Loving Rockstar

Check out Cameron Herron. He’s a GSU graduate and a Tech Talent South full-time code immersion rock star. Now that he’s in the coding world he wants nothing more than to spend his days developing and expanding his knowledge. Think he might be a good fit for your tech startup? Read on and get to know him better.

What program are you finishing up?
I just finished my tenure as part of a coding cohort known as Tech Talent South; TTS offers a code immersion program (8 weeks in length) that teaches its students Ruby/Ruby on Rails, HTML, CSS, Javascript, AJAX, jQuery,jSON and utilization of APIs. It has been an amazing experience that has put me in touch with some really talented people. It has also bestowed upon me the desire to take what I’ve learned in class and expand upon it. I always want to learn more.

What’s your current role?
Currently I’m working for a small start-up company as its Operations Manager. I handle E-commerce, inventory, pricing, content and advertising, product fulfillment for multiple drop-ship vendors, fulfillment of large volume orders (think freight), logistics, packaging, communicate with multi-store distribution centers and fulfillment partners and trade-show set-up and sales. I am a man with many hats. I love what I do but know I can do more with time and practice.

What startup/tech projects have you worked on?
I’ve done web-design for the company I work for as well as helping to build business for the product we sell in the first year of its inception. I’ve also put together several projects while in school the past few months that have taught me a multitude of different methods to create web applications.

What are your best technical or creative skills?
I’ve always been technologically adept. I just need the time to examine and practice with something to understand it. I graduated from Georgia State University (Go Panthers!) with a degree in Print Journalism, which was heavily influenced by creative writing and reading. I’ve got a knack for writing web content and breaking down technical jargon into easy to understand terminology.

What’s next on your list to learn?
Javascript, PHP and Python

Why are you interested in startups?
The culture in start-ups is so unique. No two are the same. People in startups are always so passionate about what they are building. It brings people together, working on something cohesively. It’s so beautiful in its simplicity but so inherently complicated at the same time.

Looking for an internship/job/freelance opportunities?
Any and every one. I would love the opportunity to hone my understanding of Ruby with some mentorship and learn other programming languages. I want nothing more than to sit and code 8 hours a day, writing clean, concise and beautiful code that would translate into something with a real world application. Something that will help people.
