Meet a tech talented North Georgia College & State grad. When he isn’t biking or rock climbing he’s participating in hackathons and building apps. After a few years of working for the same company, this local talent is ready to try something new. Since he’s presently employed we can’t quite say who he is, but if you want to connect with him then let me know you’re interested (trish@hypepotamus.com). I’ll intro you so you can give him a chance to flex some tech muscle at your startup.
What tech projects are you currently working on?
aVillageLikeMe is a search algorithm that is tailored to help users find their ideal neighborhood to hang out or live in an unfamiliar city. We search out this ideal place based on their favorite scene right now. I have fine tuned our database to include all neighborhoods in the top 100 cities in america. My future efforts will include expanding our directory of known cities and neighborhoods within those cities, visualizing the data either using maps or graphs, and improving our algorithm to help provide a better match for our users.
What past projects have you worked on?
TotemID was a concept that came out of a hackathon in which we wanted to give clinicians in the field the ability to positively identify patients in areas with bad cell service. What we built was an sms infrastructure that would allow users to text a unique identifier obtained by a DNA sequencing device to our web app. The web app would then compare against known patients in the database, and if a match was found, it would text the field clinician the patients name, medications, primary diagnosis, etc. I worked on most of the backend functionality for this project.
What are your best technical or creative skills?
My best technical skills would most likely be in the area of data structures and algorithms, particularly surrounding the implementation of various apis. Outside of that I would say compared to other engineers, I am patient, compassionate, and surprisingly outgoing most of the time.
What’s next on your list to learn?
Data science has really caught my interest as of late. I might pick up a coursera class on it soon.
Why the interest in startups?
I thrive on helping others kick ass. It’s why I get up in the morning. Most of the people I talk to in the community seem to have the same outlook. They want to see people around them flourish, and after all, isn’t that what life is about?
(He’s been aiming to help others for a while now)
What’s your ideal position?
I’m looking for a full-stack web engineering position in which I’d need a little room to onboard. I have been working as a developer in a non web realm for almost 3 years so the onboarding piece should be fairly quick.
When are you looking to start?
Any time.
