Jennifer Bland already had 10+ years of development experience before deciding to pivot in her programming career and focus on Full-Stack Development. She is currently finishing up her final weeks of study at Hack Reactor which is the #1 ranked coding boot camp in the U.S. While working for a startup company in Atlanta several years ago, IBM asked Jennifer to write a programming book on IBM’s Lotus Notes product. She spent 6 weeks at IBM’s headquarters writing an average of 10 hours a day. At the end she had written a 400+ page book titled “Developing e-Business Applications Using Lotus Domino on the AS/400.”
Jennifer is looking to combine her years of development experience with her newly learned skills to find the perfect Full-Stack or Front-End Developer position in Atlanta.
What class are you currently taking through Hack Reactor?
Hack Reactor is a 13 week long immersive full-stack development program where classes run 12 hours a day for 6 days a week. During the program I have mastered front-end JavaScript frameworks like Backbone and Angular, server development with Node, and databases with SQL and Mongo. In addition I have become very skilled with front-end design using HTML, CSS and Twitter Bootstrap.
What past tech projects have you worked on?
I have worked on many projects over the past couple of months and the full list can be found on my website at www.jenniferbland.com. One of the more interesting projects is Hacker Feed where we created a better reading interface for Hacker News. With Hacker Feed you can actually select the people that you want to follow and then only see posts made by those people. At its height Hacker Feed was ranked #47 on Hacker News.
I also had the opportunity to create an e-commerce website for Fan Box which sells monthly subscription boxes to fans of professional and college sports teams. The website uses Angular and Twitter Bootstrap to produce a very fast and responsive website.
Currently I am working on SnapIt which is similar to Pinterest but overcomes the biggest limitations found with Pinterest. With SnapIt you can easily collect images, entire articles, short snippets of text from a post or links to important information using a Chrome extension. Once you login to your SnapIt account we display all your information in a grid pattern developed in Angular.
All of my projects are available in my Github account (https://github.com/ratracegrad)
What are your best technical or creative skills?
My strongest skill is my desire to learn new technologies and then be able to implement them.
What’s next on your list to learn?
I am learning about new changes in the industry including Angular 2.0 and JavaScript ES6.
Interested in startups?
I have worked for both Fortune 100 companies like Apple Computer and Coca-Cola as well as being the fourth employee hired in a small startup company. I love the startup environment because you have the opportunity to make a greater impact on the future of a company.
What’s your ideal job?
My ideal job would be Front-End Development or Full-Stack Development.
When are you available to start?
I will be available to start July 1st.
