Monday “Fund” Day

What better way to start off a new week than to take a quick look back at the big headlines from last week? Our Monday “Fund” Day series can get you all caught up on the major startup headlines from last week…and the important startup announcements that may have flown under the radar. We’ll also get you prepped for the week ahead with the important events and deadlines you need to know.

Here’s what happened last week:

Who is in building mode

It was a quiet week for the Southeast venture world, with little noise for companies announcing major rounds. But that doesn’t mean it has been a quiet week for the startup community. Here are the teams in growth mode right now:

* HealthSnap, a Florida-based startup backed by many Southeast investors, landed a $25 million Series B. The round was led by Virginia-based Sands Capital Ventures. Read more here.

Georgia Banking Company (GBC), a leading local community bank committed to fostering innovation and economic growth in the region, today announced a new collaboration with the Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC), the state of Georgia’s technology startup incubator. Read more about the announcement here.

The Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs (RICE) landed a $1 million grant from Comcast NBCUniversal. The grant will help propel the acceleration of Digital RICE, the “Level UP” Speaker Series, and the RICE Data Science Initiative, according to a Comcast press release. Want to know what RICE has been up to recently? Check out our recent updates after our reporting trip there earlier in February.

McCrary Institute at Auburn University has a new podcast devoted to cybersecurity called Cyber Focus. It has already landed some impressive guests, including Chris Inglis, the first National Cyber Director; Melissa Hathaway, a former national security advisor to presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama; and former Southern Company CEO Tom Fanning; CNN cybersecurity reporter Sean Lyngaas,  and Politico cybersecurity reporter Maggie Miller.

* Venture Connect, the large-scale venture conference in North Carolina, is less than a month away. The startups pitching on stage have been announced. Check out the link here to see what startups were selected
