Proactive security.

That is what Undaunted, the latest startup spinning out of the Atlanta Ventures Studio, is hyperfocused on as it brings robotic solutions to market.

That is a different approach than what you will mostly find across the physical security world, co-founder and CEO Bryan Dinner told Hypepotamus. To date, the industry has largely been reactive and only deploys solutions after an incident occurs, which exposes both guards and bystanders to potential harm during an incident.

Undaunted, which officially launches today, is a robotics company providing “real-time security solutions” for real estate developers, property owners, and community stakeholders looking to proactively safeguard properties and tenants.

“Robots offer unmatched consistency and efficiency. They don’t get tired, distracted, or intimidated, and they can operate in all kinds of conditions. Equipped with advanced sensors and remote human oversight, they serve as both a deterrent and a rapid responder, seamlessly integrating with other security systems to enhance overall safety,” Dinner added.

INSIDE UNDAUNTED

Dinner told Hypepotamus that in most situations, people going about their business will never encounter one of their robots. Those who enter a restricted spot using Undaunted — be it a construction site or an area that has instituted a curfew — will see a “calm, approachable” robot guard that “observes and deters without being intrusive.”

“Most importantly, there is a human operator on the other side that uses built-in microphones and speakers to interact with people and is ready to deescalate the situation,” Dinner added. “The robot system notifies our remote monitoring team, which assesses the situation live and decides on the best course of action, including contacting local personnel or law enforcement if necessary. The remote operator will use the robot to deter a would-be criminal in under five minutes or help someone find their way out of a restricted area.”

Dinner and the Atlanta Ventures team have been working on the Undaunted concept for about the last nine months, encouraged to build a technology solution that could be deployed in  South Downtown, a growing and revitalizing Atlanta neighborhood where Atlanta Tech Village is opening its latest startup hub.

“Over the next months, we combined engineering, security expertise, and real-world feedback to refine and deploy a working prototype,” he added.

In its early days, Undaunted is targeting commercial real estate developers, construction sites, and multifamily owners who are focused on on-site safety and are looking to manage security across multiple locations. Its plug-and-play robotic guards solutions start at $2,500 a month.

Undaunted’s robot guards have already been deployed in some spots in Atlanta.

Want to see Undaunted in action? Well, there are a few ways…though some are easier and more legal than others.

“Trespass at one of the construction sites in South Downtown, and you will quickly get to see one of our robots. For everyone else, we’d love for you to stop by our office at Atlanta Tech Village Sylvan in South Downtown and show you!” Dinner added.

BUILDING WITH ATLANTA VENTURES

Dinner, a graduate of Duke University, Penn Law School, and Wharton Business School, previously worked at Accenture’s AI strategy group in Atlanta. In 2020 he jumped into the startup world, launching the EdTech software platform Clarifi for teens with learning differences.

Dinner first connected with the Atlanta Ventures’ team by knocking on their door in Atlanta Tech Village and connecting with A.T. Gimbel. He went on to become an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Atlanta Ventures in 2023, working on validating new startup ideas. Dinner said that they were initially working on CRM for accountants and lawyers, but abandoned the idea after they “couldn’t find the right market or authentic demand.” Ultimately working on Undaunted has been about bringing new technologies to life that can help the South Downtown neighborhood project build and grow in a secure way.

“We’re pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in security technology,” David Cummings, Co-founder of Undaunted and leader of the Atlanta Ventures Studio said. “We’re proud to launch this innovative approach from the heart of Atlanta, leveraging the city’s vibrant tech ecosystem to drive our vision forward.”

In its early days, Undaunted’s technology has also attracted the attention of other key city stakeholders.

“South Downtown is being revitalized as a hub for innovation and startups. Bryan and the Undaunted team not only lead the way for future entrepreneurs who will come, but they are also laying the groundwork for making Downtown the safest and most secure place to live and work,” added AJ Robinson, President of Central Atlanta Progress.
