On-Demand Car Service Spiffy Doubles In Size With New Acquisition

Spiffy, a North Carolina-based startup specializing on on-demand car care services and technology, has announced the acquisition of Your Location Lubrication (YLL), a Florida-based company focusing on high-volume rental car preventative maintenance.

The acquisition, which more than doubles Spiffy’s size, adds YLLs’ innovative oil-change system, technicians and fleet to Spiffy’s Fleet Management as a Service services.

“YLL is in about 10 markets and five are new to us, so there’s a geographic expansion,” co-founder and CEO Scot Wingo tells Hypepotamus. “On top of that, they have a capability we don’t have, which is high-volume oil change. Their technology can change the oil in four to six cars in an hour.  Our approach can do two.”

Spiffy introduced its FMaaS service in June 2019 for customers as a one-vendor system for fleet maintenance, helping increase maximum vehicle function, and optimize overall fleet implementation nationwide.

Technicians complete mobile and on-site services with fully equipped vans for vehicle washing, detailing, oil change, tire rotation, and others. Spiffy’s proprietary technology platform supports every service via digital tracking of every employee’s location and workflow, along with customized functions that breaks down their schedules and pay rates.

“We can quarterback the entire process for the fleet manager from cradle to grave or in-fleeting, through preventative maintenance, to de-fleeting,” Wingo told Hypepotamus this past June. The benefit is a simplification of the fleet management process.”

In a statement, YLL CEO Zachary Zeller touted the value of his company’s cutting-edge oil-change technology to Spiffy’s clients.

“Today’s Fleet Managers are seeking innovative preventative maintenance solutions to reduce vehicle turnaround and increase utilization,” Zeller said.

“Providing that type of service requires multifunctional capabilities and a digital backbone. Spiffy Fleet Management as a Service delivers that and I’m thrilled to add our […] solution to the mix.”

Spiffy’s acquisition of YLL is the company’s second in less than four months. Spiffy acquired the Dallas operations of Austin-based competitor NuWash last June, allowing it to provide on-demand car washing and automotive maintenance services to more than 200 clients in that market.

Due to this most recent acquisition and organic expansion, Spiffy now offers its platform in 20 markets, employing more than 300 technicians in 200 vans equipped to provide a variety of on-demand auto services.

The YLL acquisition caps off a year of rapid growth for Spiffy. Last month, the company celebrated the completion and scheduling of its 200,000th service. However, Wingo says that Spiffy’s most recent acquisition is by far the company’s biggest milestone to date.

“It’s not every day you get to double the business overnight,” Wingo says.
