New Venture Firm Launches w/ Healthcare Focus

A new private equity firm has launched in Alpharetta, Georgia. Avego Healthcare Capital focuses on investing in companies that fall into the following categories: biopharmaceutical products, outsourced pharmaceutical services, healthcare information technology and software platforms, and consumer-driven healthcare services.

Avego’s portfolio: 

Sebela Pharmaceuticals, a company dedicated to “providing high quality branded prescription pharmaceutical products to patients and providers within the healthcare community.”

Avego’s team:

  • Michael Goldstein focuses on the pharmaceutical and outsourced pharmaceutical services industries. He’s also the former director of sales operations and business analytics for the orphan biz unit of Horizon Pharma, a specialty biopharmaceutical company which offers products in arthritis, inflammation and orphan diseases.
  • Kemble Teague, a graduate from ATL’s own Georgia Tech and former head of corporate development at Brightree, is responsible for the healthcare technology and software market. Brightree is the leading provider of cloud-based software for home health, hospice, home medical equipment and pharmacy providers.
  • Bala Venkataraman is an experienced operating executive in the industry as well as co-founder and Executive Chairman of Vidara Therapeutics. Before it was sold to Horizon Pharma in September 2014, Vidara Therapeutics of Alpharetta became most well-known for its Actimmune product, which can help with granulomatous disease as well as osteoporosis.
