GreyOrange, a Singapore-headquartered international robotics company, will open a U.S. headquarters in Atlanta to reach customers across North America. It has opened 50 positions immediately, with plans to hire 85 total in Atlanta across support, sales, engineering and account management.
GreyOrange, which is “the world’s largest supply chain robotics company,” according to CEO and co-founder Samay Kohli, deploys AI-powered robots to automate processes for supply chain, retail warehouses and logistics customers. Its robots, which are powered by proprietary software, automate manual labor tasks like picking up, sorting and packaging boxes.
Certainly, the market opportunity is growing quickly — one report predicted that sales of warehousing and logistics robots would grow from $1.9 billion in 2016 to $22.4 billion by the end of 2021.
GreyOrange, founded in 2011, was one of the first players in the field. It now employs more than 450 in Singapore, India, Japan, Germany and the U.S. and has raised more than $35 million in outside capital.
A company statement claims that GreyOrange’s robots have increased efficiency by 15 percent and increased output by 50 percent for certain clients. The company says that its first Atlanta client will deploy 740 robots.
Kohli says they selected Atlanta “for its reputations for excellence in supply chain and emerging tech.”
“We feel that Atlanta is the perfect area to expand our U.S. efforts as we will have access to incredible talent from local institutions that are already providing manufacturing training program (e.g. Georgia Tech). The city is an important hub in the manufacturing, e-commerce and apparel industries, with many headquarters based there (e.g FedEx, Coca-Cola, Home Depot, Cox Enterprises, and more), putting us within close proximity of future customers,” he told Hypepotamus in an email interview.
The company has also brought on a new U.S.-based leader, Chris Barber, as Regional CEO of North America, who comes to the firm from Honeywell. As Vice President, Southern Operations of Honeywell Intelligrated, he helped lead the supply chain and warehouse automation solutions division of the enterprise.
“Having built my career in the industry, I see a massive opportunity in the U.S. to make robots widespread in the workplace; to increase worker safety and allow humans to do more meaningful work with support from their robot companions,” Barber said in a statement. “I’m excited to join GreyOrange to fuel the robotic revolution in the supply chain industry.”
GreyOrange has placed a temporary office in Alpharetta while it searches for a permanent Atlanta location. In addition to the new headquarters, the company will open an R&D center in Boston and a U.S. manufacturing facility, the location of which has not been announced, to produce over 20,000 robots by 2021.
