Comcast NBCUniversal’s The Farm has opened its brand new, 12,000-square-foot space at The Battery Atlanta. The space will be home to startups accepted into The Farm’s accelerator program, which is part of Comcast’s LIFT Labs for Entrepreneurs program, along with co-working desks, a hardware lab, and event space.
The accelerator is a program of Boomtown, a Boulder, CO-based startup program. The three-month program will help startups refine their product and pitch, connect them with mentors and educational resources, and culminate in a Demo Day to investors and consumers. In addition to the $20,000 they receive, they’ll be able to work at The Farm for free and gain access to hosting, software discounts, and more.
The Farm’s Managing Director Burunda Prince-Jones says they intend to focus on engaging the Atlanta community, including other startup hubs and educational programs and schools.
“Atlanta has its own identity, its own ecosystem, and we want to be a driving force for entrepreneurs in the Atlanta area,” Prince-Jones said in an interview last year.
The free co-working space will serve as both a feeder and follow-up for the accelerator, allowing startups who may be too early for the program, along with those who graduate from the program, to remain connected. The onsite hardware lab is also free for outside use.
The Farm’s inaugural accelerator program will begin in early March.
