Emrgy provides clean energy generation capabilities to the owners / managers of man-made water transport canals constituting a multi-billion dollar opportunity in North America alone. The Company’s 5-10 kW modular hydropower turbines integrate flexibly within existing waterways to generate continuous renewable electric power using innovative hardware and software technology. Emrgy’s distributed hydropower solution embodies the same attributes that have made the wind and solar power industries grow exponentially over the past several decades: modularity and flexibility. Building upon four years of development, over $2 million in Federally-sponsored R&D funding, growing customer engagements, and its global sales and manufacturing partnership with GE, Emrgy is preparing for expansion and significant sales with committed municipal and utility customers in 2020.
About the Work – The Power Application Engineer (PAE) is a key member of the Product Development and Innovation team and serves as bridge between our knowledge of the hydrodynamics of our power generation product and its design, manufacture and deployment in a system configuration. This position will specifically link computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations with multiple product design elements, and the aggregation of individual units into multi-unit (5-50) arrays. Optimization of our twin-turbine unit and multi-unit arrays based on both cost and performance will require experience in techno-economic analysis, complex systems, and numerical modeling. This role will ideally require familiarity with the entire energy production system, including the hydrokinetic turbine technology, power take-off system, control and power electronics, balance-of-system components and grid/microgrid interconnect. Based on experience, the work may include guiding product design using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling and supervision of technical personnel responsible for such.
The PAE will report directly to the Director of Product Development as well as have frequent interaction with the Chief Technical/Operations Officer, the manufacturing and deployment team and the sales team.
About You – The ideal candidate will have an engineering or science background with broad numerical modeling experience and a familiarity with mechanical and/or electrical systems, ideally with an exposure to hydrodynamics and CFD and energy/power production. In addition to helping define optimum product and system designs, the ideal candidate needs to be proficient in distilling knowledge into clear communications to colleagues and the management team. This role requires an experience in early-stage product development where the road is paved with new challenges on a regular basis and where flexibility and desire to assimilate new knowledge – in many cases outside of your core expertise – is a key to success.

We’d like to talk with you if you have:
• 5-10 years of experience in energy-related product development
· A strong understanding of, and experience with, techno-economic analysis and complex systems
· Demonstrated proficiency in numerical modeling in Excel, Matlab, or similar platforms
· Familiarity or expertise with CFD is a plus
· Top notch written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar field;
