Canopy is looking for a controller who could be a strategic partner with the CEO.  The controller will be involved in all aspects of the business and be a key resource and sounding board to help the CEO decide issues relating to business plans, vendors, strategic relationships, employees, processes and other issues relative to the business.

We are located in the Old Fourth Ward and, ideally, would like someone who can come in a couple days a week for discussions plus handle on a remote or in-office basis the specific things below.  We are good at designing and selling software, but we suck at the whole finance and admin thing.  We’ve grown beyond needing just a book keeper, so we’re looking to get some structure around those functions before we grow into a bigger mess.

Specific Responsibilities

– Produce monthly Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Statement of Cash Flows in accordance with GAAP
Reconcile bank statements
-Monthly credit card reconciliation
-Manage accounts payable and provide monthly AP reports.
-Manage accounts receivable and provide monthly AR aging reports.
-Assist CEO in preparing operating budgets and provide monthly cash budget variance reports.
-Help define key operating metrics and prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly management reports.
-Establish an expense management process and submit expense reports to the CEO for approval..  Use Canopy for this task.
-Oversee federal, state and local tax filings using outside accountant to prepare taxes.
-Assist with vendor and contract management
-Implement systems and track:
1. Customer Contracts
2. Federal and State business filings
3. Insurances
4. Leases
5. Software Licenses including recurring subscriptions
6. Assets
-Assess Quickbooks accounting system and either oversee implementation of new accounting system or improvements to existing accounting system.
-Recommend and implement financial and compliance controls.
-Set up standard contracts file for use by all departments.
-Bonus – Expertise in process implementation particularly implementation of system to integrate custom acquisition to customer billing steps in a software environment.
