Why You Should Attend The National Civic Hack Day

The National Civic Day of hacking is this weekend (you can register for it here) and you may be wondering why would I want to sign up to be a part of this event? The short answer is because winners go to the White House. The long answer has more to do what’s been happening this year in the Atlanta civic hacking world.

This year alone, Atlanta played host to the first ever NCAA hackathon, which gave Atlanta residents a chance to help make the Final Four a success. And before that there was the Clean Web ATL Hackathon and the Govathon, which was the first citywide hackathon to help the City of Atlanta government create new solutions. So we took it a step further and created the Better Atlanta Project (a collaborative initiative open to anyone who wants to give back to the community by offering their technology and innovation talents to the local and state government and other civic/charitable organizations).

Now is your chance to join the concerned and involved citizens as they join the nation in tackling massive challenges like improving healthcare, building a farmers market directory, and many more. You can join fellow citizens and the Random Hacks of Kindness team as they lead the charge and rally the troops around the local community’s and nation’s challenges. You’ll be a part of history, inspire others to do more and maybe even win that trip to the White House.

So if you’ve been itching to give back to the local community or you just want to see what all this civic hacking fuss is about, come out on June 1-2 to the Hodges Room in the Centergy Building located at 5th Street Atlanta, GA NW 30308. There will be a block party and other great people working right along side you, making an impact. If you still want to learn more check out this promo post for any additional information. Hope to see you there.
