Create Guest Experience with the Braves App Challenge

The Short Version

Imagine yourself in the mist of a lifestyle destination where you can live, work, shop, eat and socialize. Take it a step further, imagine being at The Coca-Cola Roxy Theatre concert venue, new restaurants, an Omni hotel, a mass of entertainment destinations and new upscale shoppes. Now imagine creating the ultimate guest experience, for this destination, centered around digital and mobile interaction between consumers and vendors from both a consumer-facing and back-end experience.

Building upon the rich history of the Atlanta Braves and anchored by their new home – SunTrust Park (The Battery Atlanta) needs your help to become the South’s preeminent lifestyle destination.

The Goal

Help create the ultimate guest experience, which will be paramount for positively shaping each and every fan’s visit to SunTrust Park and the Battery Atlanta.

The Masterpiece

Develop innovative solutions to help the Braves deliver a key fan experience at the new SunTrust Park and the Battery Atlanta in 2017. More-specifically, ideas on how to influence positive fan experience that meets at the intersection of these 3 key elements: 1) 90+ acres of land – including a state-of-the-art 41,000 seat ballpark, 3,500 concert venue, 20+ restaurants and bars, retail, green space, a hotel, residences and offices. 2) The fastest connectivity of any sports stadium and/or multi-use development – 1 terabit – in the United States. 3) Fans and guests that are continuing to drive incremental usage on their mobile devices; we need to be mobile-first.

The Process

Register individually, and form teams at the app challenge kickoff on Friday, August 12. Feel free to invite your friends, colleagues, and past teammates to register as well. Create a new project, or build on an existing project; the code does not need to be new. You continue to own your own code.

The Doers

Startups developers, students, designers, and business strategists – The Atlanta Braves, the longest continuously operating franchise in Major League Baseball, are looking for fresh ideas and potential partners to help redesign the entire guest experience at SunTrust Park and the Battery Atlanta. App Challenge Schedule:

Atlanta Tech Village will be open 24 hours starting Saturday at 9am through Sunday.

Friday, August 12: Challenge Kickoff (Mandatory)

6:00pm – Registration & Reception

7:00pm – Official Welcome Presentation

7:30pm – Braves Challenges, APIs, Prizes

8:00pm – Rules & Submissions

8:30pm – Team Formation

9:00pm – End of Day – Go home and rest.

Saturday, August 13: Challenge, Day 2

9:00am – Breakfast & Morning Check-in

10:00am – Coding Begins

12:00pm – Lunch

5:00pm – Dinner

10:00pm – End of Day – Participants are free to code into the night.

Sunday, August 14: Challenge, Day 3

9:00am – Breakfast

12:00pm – Lunch

3:00pm – Submission Deadline (all team members must be present)

4:00pm – Demos

6:00pm – Dinner & Judging Deliberation

6:45pm – Award Presentation

7:00pm – End of Challenge

The Goodies:

Winner: $5,000 and tickets for a 2016 game at SunTrust Park with a VIP experience, including the ability to watch batting practice from the field!

Runner-up: $1,000 and tickets for a 2016 game at SunTrust Park with a VIP experience, including the ability to watch batting practice from the field!

The Fine Print:

Any consumer-facing mobile elements must integrate into the SunTrust Park/Battery Atlanta app.

All submissions must fit into one of the challenge categories.

All submissions and demos must include a working (coded) prototype (mobile or software application, website, etc.). No slideware permitted.

All submissions must be demoed live to the judge panel between 4pm and 6pm on August 14th, 2016.

All submissions must keep to the 5-minute time parameters outlined for demos.

Judging Criteria:

Audience Engagement: 25% – Does the solution increase visits or conversion to SunTrust Park and/or The Battery Atlanta through digital engagement

Revenue Potential: 25% – Does the solution offer a path to monetization through sponsorship opportunities or monetary transactions at SunTrust Park/The Battery Atlanta?

Feasibility & Scalability: 25% – How market-ready is the solution? How practical is it to execute against in market? Is there a working prototype?

Creativity & Originality: 25% – Is this truly an original solution that would help showcase SunTrust Park and the Battery Atlanta as the destination to visit? Will this create excitement among the target community, as well as garner industry praise and press accolades?

Intellectual Property:

All concepts developed through The Braves App Challenge are property of the individuals/teams submitting the idea, and the Braves/Major League Baseball Advanced Media have the discretion to use the idea for integration into Braves digital businesses.

All participants will be required to complete an NDA.
