Collab Capital founders Justin Dawkins, Jewel Burks Solomon and Barry Givens

Along with their partner Jewel Burks Solomon, Barry Givens and Justin Dawkins are the cofounders of Atlanta-based Collab Capital. Described as “a new institution for Black entrepreneurs,” Collab Capital is both a venture fund and an accelerator “studio,” where founders will receive guidance and resources they need to launch and succeed.

Hypepotamus Editor-in-Chief Mike Jordan interviewed Givens and Dawkins — who’re both still sheltering-in-place due to the COVID-19 pandemic — this week, to learn more about the $50 million fund they’re raising, their first investment of $500,000, what Collab Capital is looking for as they make further investments, and why the endeavor is necessary.
