Acquisition News: Atlanta software development agency joins forces with local UX/UI team

It’s an Atlanta M&A deal made in design heaven.

Band of Coders, a software development and engineering agency founded in 2001, announced this week the acquisition of Atlanta-based Toolbox No. 9. Toolbox. The design company was founded in 2005 and focuses on app development, user experience, and user interface design.

Monetary details about the acquisition were not disclosed, but Jason Rhoades, Founder and President of Toolbox, has been appointed Senior Managing Partner of Band of Coders.

Bringing a software development firm and a UX/UI team under one roof will create new opportunities for current and future clients.

“The pandemic has accelerated the use of mobile apps and web applications to consume products and services at scale. At Band of Coders we are meeting business visionaries daily with great tech ideas that will transform their industry,” Bobby John, Band of Coders’ founder and CEO, told Hypepotamus.

Teams working with Band of Coders begin by consulting with a fractional CTO to ensure their software needs are met. The agency has worked with teams ranging from international giants like Uber and the United Nations all the way to hometown brands like the Atlanta Braves and fintech startup Patientco.

What the teams are saying

John said he met Jason Rhoades over at Toolbox No. 9 “several years ago” through a mutual client that was using both teams for a project.

When we saw the need to bring user experience and interface design under our roof as an integrated service offering, Jason was the first person I called. He has incredible vision for the future of UX/UI and has assembled a very talented team,” added John.

Toolbox and Band of Coders were combined to unite our respective culture, experience, and expertise — an elegant yin and yang of design and development for digital products. In Band of Coders, I found the best full-stack development agency that shared our same vision and aspirations for the future. This acquisition enables Toolbox to further our mission of providing the best User Experience to the most innovative and fastest growing companies in the world,” said Rhoades in a statement.

Band of Coders has a team of 50 across Atlanta and its regional offices in the US and Canada. Toolbox has 14 employees, according to LinkedIn.
