Two Athens Guys Take On Amazon

With over 270 million registered users and almost $90 billion in annual sales revenue, as a merchant it’s impossible to ignore Amazon.com. However, ask anyone in e-commerce and they’ll tell you, selling on the online retail giant is no walk in the park. If you do a quick Google search, you’ll find confusing and conflicting advice on how to sell on Amazon. Now you can scrap the message boards.

Athens-based startup, Seller Labs, helps third-party sellers make the most out of their digital storefront with a series of unique tech tools. We recently chatted with one of the company’s co-founders to get the scoop.

Founded by Brandon Checketts and Paul Johnson, “Seller Labs creates software and websites for e-commerce sellers to drive more profit,” explains Checketts. “Over 50% of sales on Amazon come from 3rd-party sellers. While the number of sellers over the past few years has remained consistent, the revenue from this group of sellers has increased dramatically. Many of these sellers are smaller operations and require the assistance of software to be successful. Seller Labs is on the forefront of the technology and a leader in the industry to provide tools that these sellers need to manage and grow their businesses.”

“Each of our products solves a unique problem. Feedback Genius provides an automated customer communication tool which allows our sellers to provide a better customer experience. By being able to reach out to more customers with less effort, our clients can see a 100% or greater increase in the feedback they receive as a seller, and for the products that they sell. Seller feedback and product reviews are a core component to ranking in the Amazon search algorithm and ultimately equate to increased revenue,” he continues.

Snagshout.com is a unique platform that assists sellers in generating quality conversions and honest product reviews. Whether launching a new product or trying to grow sales of an existing product, merchants struggle to get their product noticed. Our social discovery platform gives merchants the extra exposure their brands need. The resulting product reviews provide an even greater long term return on their investment.”

The company’s co-founders are serial entrepreneurs who ran Amazon and eBay stores for several years, as well as their own e-commerce sites. In 2007, Brandon created BookScouter.com, which has grown to be a leading site for selling used books online. While still in college, Paul built a website for selling guitars online with two thousand dollars on a credit card. With limited access to capital during the recession, he was able to grow revenue to hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales. The pair shared a warehouse for their two e-commerce businesses and discovered that the software they were writing for these businesses provided features that couldn’t be found in any other products. They sold their inventory businesses to focus full-time on creating software products for sellers with Seller Labs.

Today, Seller Labs has 20 employees and are adding 1-2 per month. “We are growing like crazy and are always on the lookout for talented developers who are interested in the latest technologies, as well as amazing customer support staff,” says Checketts. “As we grow, we will be looking for mentors to assist us in learning the things we don’t yet know.”
