Roadie, Inc. has raised $15 million Series B to enhance and expand its on-the-way delivery network through a round led by Warren Stephens and the UPS Strategic Enterprise Fund. The Atlanta-based startup will use the funds to broaden existing partnerships, build new distribution channels, and cultivate their growing community.
You may have heard Ludacris and others talking about Roadie’s innovative delivery model, which uses the extra space in passenger vehicles to carry items headed in the same direction as their order destination. Since Roadie’s launch in January 2015, the platform has emerged as a exciting new way to send hard-to-transport items. “From patio furniture to pets, Roadie makes ‘out-of- the box’ delivery as easy and convenient as ordering a pizza, ” said Marc Gorlin, Roadie’s founder and CEO.
Gorlin sees the influx of funds as a way to drive the young startup to a new level. “Demand generation is our key focus in 2016, and this financing round will help us significantly ramp up those efforts, including hiring a world class CMO to expand and grow our market presence.”
The round was led by the UPS Strategic Enterprise Fund. Last fall, the key investor and partner leveraged UPS to provide $10,000 in coverage for every package sent through Roadie’s platform, providing the same seal of approval for the startup as the national carrier.
“We believe the sharing economy is creating interesting opportunities, as both small businesses and consumers look for new ways to move things more quickly and efficiently than ever before,” said Rimas Kapeskas, managing director of the UPS Strategic Enterprise Fund. “The UPS Strategic Enterprise Fund creates a progressive way for us to collaborate and learn from companies like Roadie, who are exploring new business models and building new technologies that can transform the future direction of the logistics industry.”
