Local Ecommerce: Hip & Jewish

Modern Tribe, an online shop curated by owner Jennie Rivlin Roberts(@ModernTribe_Jew), focuses on furnishing high-quality products and excellent customer service, with a goal of providing modern Jews with a means to embrace both their heritage and beautiful design.

A few weeks ago we gave you a rundown of the company, their inspiration & their favorite tools. Check it out, and then continue reading below to learn how Modern Tribe stays on top of trends, what’s unique about their culture, and what they need most right now.

Where do you gain your insights from and how do you stay on top of emerging trends?
I travel to New York City to go to trade shows and browse the independent boutiques in up-and-coming neighborhoods. I pay close attention to indie design online and locally here in Atlanta, too.

What’s Unique About Your Company Culture:
We speak only Yiddish in the office! Oy vey! I’m kidding. However, the reason we treat our customers so well (and I treat employees well) is grounded in my belief in tikkun olam, the Jewish idea that we all have an obligation to repair the world. Every interaction is an opportunity to move toward a better world, the kind we all want to live in, one with trust, compassion, honesty, and fairness. Therefore, I strive to give that to my customers and employees… not that I don’t make mistakes! We also experiment a lot; we are always trying out new things: new products, new marketing techniques, new fulfillment processes, etc..

What You Need Most Right Now:
We need at least 2000 square feet of flex-space that would serve as warehouse and fulfillment for our e-commerce and also allow a small retail shop in the front so that we can experiment with a new retail concept. We need the rent to be very low to free for the first year, as we build our new concept.
