Coworking Space Calls ATL BeltLine Home

The award-winning Atlanta BeltLine houses some of the best restaurants and businesses this side of the Chattahoochee. Art and nature collide along the stretch of path where you’ll find Alkaloid Networks, a coworking space built within the historic Virginia Cotton Docks warehouse. If you’re looking for an innovative space with delicious eats next door (ahem, Ladybird), this coworking space is the place to be. We recently caught up with Katherine Klang, Alkaloid’s Marketing Director, to hear how their space has woven itself into the fabric of Old Fourth Ward.

History:
Alkaloid Networks coworking opened in April of 2015. Our founder, Ben Klang, saw a unique opportunity created by a beautiful old warehouse space in a central location that is easily accessible by foot or bike on the Atlanta Beltline. With lots of exciting culinary options and creative urban living nearby, it seemed to be the ideal spot for emerging businesses to plant their seeds.

Types of Companies at Alkaloid:
Alkaloid’s members are our greatest asset. We have a creative design & photography company, a computer security company, an event planning company, a non-profit, a startup seeking to be eBay for heavy equipment, and a great group of guys disrupting the guitar industry. Everyone is welcome and creates a great mix of diverse industries!

How do you cater to early stage business (price/programs)?
Having a friendly community of people to encourage each other is one of our strongest assets. We’ve already had one creative group grow from renting a dedicated desk to getting their own private office. Being flexible with space is important. Everyone goes to lunch together on Fridays and we learn more and how we can help each other.

Average Resident Age:
We have all ages and walks of life. From recent grads to folks with kids in high school.

Space Cost:
Dedicated desks start at $275 per month with private offices starting as low as $550 per month. A quick note about our approach: we don’t offer shared desks. We wanted to create a more tight-knit community and we wanted to ensure that members had full access to the available services. The best way we found to do that was to limit membership to people who wanted to be in the office regularly and to set up their ideal work environment. That’s why you’ll only find dedicated desks or private offices here.

Do you host events?
Our members can host events as small movie night on the projector wall or as large as a kickstarter launch party. A party could easily hold as many as 75-80 people. We have member appreciation events and everyone brings something to share with the community. And our rooftop deck is the place to be to relax after the day or week.
